Building resilient Arctic Communities to Permafrost Thaw Hazards
Organization: Woodwell Climate Research Center
Primary Investigator: Anna Liljedahl
Research Track: Climate & Environmental Resilience
Abstract
Woodwell Climate Research Center and University of Alaska Fairbanks will collaborate with users and service providers of geospatial information to empower communities and agencies in addressing permafrost thaw hazards in Alaska. This includes the creation of new datasets such as ice-rich permafrost and ground subsidence rates, tool development that enable easy access and use of the data, and designing a guiding framework. The Permafrost Discovery Gateway, an online free portal, is serving as the hub bringing data and people together to successfully address problems and opportunities associated with permafrost thaw.
