With support from the National Science Foundation, MetroLab Network will be a partner on the Civic Innovation Challenge, a national research and action competition in the Smart and Connected Communities domain.

The Civic Innovation Challenge will launch in 2020, with anticipated support from NSF and other federal agencies and stakeholders.

The Civic Innovation Challenge aims to leverage social science, data, and technology to address complex community challenges, enhance job growth and economic competitiveness, and address equity in our communities.

We are setting out to change the way that research impacts people and communities…

.…by flipping the community-university dynamic, asking communities to identify civic priorities ripe for innovation and to partner with researchers to address those priorities.

…by bridging the gap between research and deployment, ensuring that research is conducted in a context that allows for realistic testing and evaluation of impact.

…by connecting government, philanthropy and industry partners to drive progress.
